How to use IESVE to assess Daylight Levels & Direct Sunlight
The IES Lunch-N-Learn series gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and maximize the capability of our VE technology, from the comfort of your own desk.
These low cost sessions will cover a different topic each month
You will get access to a recorded version of every session you attend
Each session will be led by one of our VE experts
Live participants can interact with our presenters

This session will give attendees a basic understanding of how RadianceIES can be used to assess interior daylight levels and the potential for glare within a space.
We will show how RadianceIES in VE 2017 can be used to determine Useful Daylight Illuminance (UDI), Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) and Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE), using the technique of climate based daylight modelling (CBDM).
Attendees will also be shown the basics of using SunCast, to analyse the amount of direct sunlight available on external surfaces and external windows, and also to visualise the penetration of sunlight into a space.
Note: No previous experience of the VE is necessary, although a basic understanding of the VE2017 interface and VE model structure would be useful. Further training is recommended as this session will only provide a basic introduction.
